Filtration

Keep Your Pond Water Clear & Healthy

Is the water in your pond clear and clean, or is it green or dirty? Is your water brimming with health, or sick and polluted? We specify and install filters for both koi and goldfish ponds. Filters keep the water from going green and filters keep the water clean and in good health. If your pond is green and you can't see the fish, then install a filtration system to turn the green to clean. If you have a lot of fish in your pond or if you have had problems with dying fish, install a filtration system. Give your water a boost.

If your water feature is heavily stocked with fish, they will be polluting the water with their own bodily waste. The levels of untreated fish waste in the water garden can reach dangerous levels and the fish can become diseased and die. If you want to make sure that this doesn't happen in your watergarden or if you already have a problem, install a filter. Filters process the fish waste and render it harmless. Is the water clear in your water garden or is it green and murky? A filtration system will kill the algae that make it green and stop your water feature going green again. We can help you make sure that you install the correct filtration system for your waterfeature. Many people install filters that are not suitable for their watergarden. Too small a filter is almost as bad as no filter at all. We have been installing filtration systems in the UK, in the Surrey area for over 15 years.

Using carefully installed and correctly specified equipment, you too can have a clear pond with clean healthy water.

Basic Principles

There are two main reasons to filter a pond.

To create clear clean water conditions.

To render toxic fish waste products harmless, by the biological action of beneficial bacteria.

Most filtration system consist of three parts:

The Ultra Violet Clarifier (U.V.C) - The main purpose of this unit, is to keep the water clear. The water passes through the U.V.C lamp, which subjects the water to a strong dose of Ultra Violet light. The Ultra Violet light disrupts the DNA in the algae, which cause green water and causes them to die.

A Settlement Chamber - This main purpose of this chamber, is to remove organic sediments (Mud, heavy fish waste, uneaten food rotting leaves etc.) suspended in the water. This is usually done using filter brushes, or a vortex settlement chamber.

Biological Filtration - Beneficial bacteria is cultured on a variety of media such as foam, shingle, short lengths of tubing (called flocor) etc. The bacteria digest the harmful waste produced by the fish, and render them harmless. They also digest the dead algae produced by the U.V.C.
